RAS Cookhouse

Just to keep this topic moving…was the RAS cookhouse an overland truck? I’ve never seen any RAS loading list with any cookhouse listed. I would suppose it was a medium sized tent with a trailer mounted kitchen facility or what? I’d like to add it to my HO model if anyone has any measurements, detailed sescriptions or photos of it. Iremember a many cold night having the beef stew like soup….guaranteed to burn your mouth if it did not set long enough to cool down. The white bread wrappped in paper which was checked in case it was "recycled" too many times before someone would eat it.
Always good and germ killing hot….

I remember Lou Meehan had the cookhouse when I was there. It always sat behind the rides out of the public’s direct view.

However, unlike circus cookhouses where the food was part of you salary the Royal cookhouse was a pay for your food proposition. At the Mississippi State Fair the coodhouse was way off the midway and would have never been found by the general public.

Having said that, we’d certainly like to hear of any tales you would care to share with us….we’re all RAS fanatics! Connie–that goes for you, too! How about some stories about what it was like to work the big back end shows? Bob S.
